HELP! I am losing my hair.

I understand how you feel, I have had a period of hair loss, it is way more common than you may think. Many people suffer hair loss at some point during their life. On average each person loses 80 -100 hairs per day. This natural shedding can sometimes go unnoticed, but it's essential to know that hair continually renews itself with new growth.

Are you unsure whether your hair growth cycle is working?

Look at your hairline by pulling all your hair back. Can you see tiny hairs appearing at the hairline? These tiny hairs will be all over your scalp and are your new hairs replacing the ones that are naturally falling. Rest assured most hair loss is temporary or a normal part of getting older.

Here are some reasons people lose hair and tips on how to manage it;

Alopecia

Alopecia is a general term for different types of hair loss that is either patches of baldness or complete baldness. To determine an alopecia type would require a visit to a Dermatologist or a Trichologist but rest assured that most hair loss is temporary. Healthy hair relies on a  healthy scalp, so focus on keeping the scalp hydrated.

My favourite regimen is Eufora Thickening Cleansing Treatment and Thickening Conditioning Treatment. This targeted regimen has a high dose of Organic, Pharmaceutical Grade Aloe Vera. Aloe is antioxidant, antibacterial, antiviral and antiseptic. Its powerful properties aid healing and hydration.  Aloe contains over 90% of the body's amino acids and therefore is the perfect base for a high  performing, luxury product such as Eufora. You can further enhance your treatment by adding Eufora Thickening Scalp Treatment used twice daily for maximum results.

Medical Conditions and Medications

Medical conditions such as cancer, diabetes, anaemia, scalp infection and thyroid disease to mention a few, can have a profound effect on hair growth experienced either by thinning over time or sudden hair loss over a matter of weeks. Medication side effects can also wreak havoc with your hair and scalp, but it is possible to do much to help prevent the worst. Pay attention to your diet, make sure you are consuming a diet rich in vitamin B found in foods like salmon, chicken, dairy, spinach and bananas and vitamin A found in leafy green vegetables, tomatoes and oily fish as well as dairy.

A hair care regimen based on your hair type should be followed to ensure healthy hair and careful attention paid to the health of your scalp. Treat yourself to a scalp massage every day. You do not have to wash your hair to enjoy the benefits of massage, which will encourage blood to the surface therefore delivering oxygen and essential nutrients via the blood system.

Hormone and Age Related Hair Loss

Male pattern baldness affects men from as young as early 20’s. Men are becoming more concerned with how they look, and many do not want to follow their Father or Grandfather in accepting what is often considered inevitable hair loss. Discover how a Hero hair regime can help prevent premature hair loss.

For women, menopause can start a thinning process which can be distressing at this important time of life. Eufora’s Thickening Collection with its proprietary stem cell technology for enhanced results has helped many women overcome thinning and aids in hair growth, scalp health and overall styling.

Telogen Effluvium

During shampooing or brushing you may notice an increase in the amount of hair shedding, maybe you notice as you run your fingers through your hair or when you wake in the morning and see more hair on your pillow than usual. This could be Telogen Effluvium which is an increase in the proportion of hair that moves from the growing stage to shedding. Hair loss will be evenly spread all over the scalp and is recognised by a thinning of the hair density. It will not result in patches or complete loss. It can affect any age group or gender and can be caused by childbirth, illness, trauma caused by a major life event, weight loss or medication. Follow the advice regarding diet and hair and scalp care as in the medication paragraph above. Be gentle with your hair and follow the advice regarding physical and chemical damage below.

Physical Damage

Hair is a delicate fibre that should be handled with care. It is exposed to the elements (sun and wind), affected by liquids and compounds (shampoos and styling products) and subjected to brushing and styling (with hot tools and hair accessories).

Treat your tresses with care by using a heat protector and keeping the heat low when styling, using covered bands when securing your style and making sure your brush is not damaged avoiding stress on your mane. If your hair is exposed to the elements, wear a hat and choose products with UV protectant.

Chemical Damage

Any chemical change in the hair's delicate makeup will need consideration to the condition with maintenance and home care. Colouring or bleaching hair or other texture changing chemical services will ultimately cause a change in the condition of the hair.

Apart from the expected home care with shampoo and conditioner, it is important to protect your hair from heat and nourish your tresses with a deep penetrating replenishing treatment. My personal go to is Eufora Triple Bond which targets the whole hair bond system.

Key Points

Hair loss is a common concern, but understanding its causes and effective management strategies can empower you to nurture healthier, more resilient hair. Remember that most hair loss is temporary or part of the natural ageing process. Taking good care of your hair and scalp while enjoying your unique style can help you feel confident every day.
